Why You'll love it
I really loved this event and would strongly recommend it to anyone wanting a big new challenge!
Great organisation, right level of pre-event comms and the on the day pitstops were regular (approx every 10km) and well stocked with everything needed to fuel and refresh as well as medics on hand and motivational event staff.
As a first time ultra runner, I tackled the non-stop 100km distance. I followed the training plan provided by the event, which was easy to follow and I felt well prepared before the start of the race. The camaraderie on the route is amazing from all of the participants and also the supporters. I entered the race on my own but I didn't feel alone at any point.
Things you need to know
The route is both challenging & beautiful - following The Ridgeway, (Britain’s oldest road) which runs from the Chiltern Hills to the North Wessex Downs, before finishing at the neolithic stone circle at Avebury.
Train, train, train! - this is not an easy challenge and if you want to enjoy it to the full then training is essential. I'd also recommend training on trails and footpaths. Road running will help your endurance, but you can't beat training on the same terrain that you'll be running on for the event.
There are lots of options available for entering the race:
- 100km non-stop
- 100km split across two days (with or without camping half way)
- 50km only (either first day or second day)
Participants can walk or run and the cut off's are generous so it was one less thing to worry about on the day. There is a real range of abilities, so no need to feel intimidated by the super speedy runners!
